In Inuinnait culture, sewing is rooted in the identity of women. Being an accomplished seamstress is a highly valued talent.  From a young age, girls are taught to sew through the guidance of their mothers and grandmothers. In the past, this learning often began through the sewing of dolls.

This doll was sewn by Lena Kamoayok, and is based on her recollections of parka styles worn in the past.
